My Media - Common Use Cases

The My Media feature facilitates a number of unique and helpful use cases and workflows for all of the major roles one might have within the MediaCore platform.  We will discuss a few of the most popular examples below.
For Students

I would like to upload a media assignment some place that my instructor can view the content, but other students cannot.

No problem!  MediaCore allows you to privately upload media into your own My Media bucket.  From there you can securely share your media with your instructor and/or course administrator.  Here's how:
  1. From within your Learning Management System, create a new assignment, and click the MediaCore icon in the text edit window.  Note: this may look slightly different depending on which LMS you are using.

  1. On the Upload tab, click Choose file to browse for your media file. Once you have selected a file, it will automatically begin the process of uploading and processing the file.
  1. Add a title and any other meta data you require, and make sure to select the "My Media" collection.  Once your media file has finished uploading and processing, click Publish Now.
  1. Your media should be embedded into the text box for your assignment, and you can proceed to save it.

For MediaCore Users

I would like to be able to see all of my own uploaded content all in one place.

Excellent!  This is one of the most basic functions of My Media.  Here's how:
  1. Sign in to your MediaCore site using your MediaCore credentials.
  2. Click on the My Media tab in the MediaCore site header.

  1. All of the media that you have uploaded will be listed along with the date it was published (or "Draft" if not currently published) and the collections it is shared with (or "My Media" if not currently shared in any collections).

For Administrators

I would like to be able to view and audit other users' uploaded media, as well as auditing for copyrighted or other unwanted content.

Sure thing!  It is important for administrators to be able to review and manage uploaded content.  Here's how:
  1. Sign in to your MediaCore site using your MediaCore credentials.
  2. From the Manage screen in the Admin Dashboard, click the Media Type drop-down menu, and select Personal Media to display user uploaded content which has not been shared with a collection.
  1. Enter specific users and/or groups in the Filter bar to narrow your results further.

  1. You can use the regular Edit, View, and Bulk Actions tools to manage media as desired.

I would like to be able to manage budgetary concerns by only allowing certain users to upload personal media.

Good point!  You can easily use Roles to control which users have permission to upload media to the My Media bucket.  Here's how:
  1. On the Site Settings page, open the My Media tab.
  2. From here, you can add users and groups with specific roles within the My Media bucket the same way that you would for regular collections.

  1. Add the Only Mine role to specific non-administrator users or groups to grant them permission to upload, edit, and delete their own media ONLY, or add the Administrator role for users who need access to view and manage personal media belonging to other users.
